2025 12 Hours of Sebring
By Ted Hunter
The 2025 Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring IMSA endurance race took place on March 15, and for the 19th time in the event’s history, a Porsche claimed overall victory. This year, the Porsche-Penske Motorsport #7 963, driven by Felipe Nasr, Nick Tandy, and Laurens Vanthoor, crossed the finish line first. Porsche’s legacy at Sebring runs deep—its first overall win came in 1968 with the factory-team Porsche 907 short tail, piloted by Jo Siffert and Hans Hermann.
Porsche Dominates GTP Class
The Porsche-Penske Motorsport team celebrated a strong showing, with their second entry, the #6 Porsche 963, securing 2nd place in the GTP class. Two customer Porsche 963s also competed in GTP: Proton Competition’s #5 finished 6th in class and overall, while JDC Miller Motorsports’ #85 took 8th in class and overall. Porsche’s engineering and teamwork shone through across the field.
GTD Pro Victory for “Rexy”
Adding to Porsche’s success, AO Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 R—affectionately nicknamed “Rexy”—won the GTD Pro class, finishing 20th overall. This victory further bolstered Porsche’s impressive class win tally at Sebring.
Wright Motorsport Perseveres in GTD
Wright Motorsport’s #120 Porsche 911 GT3 R finished 5th in the GTD class. Although I wasn’t able to watch the race myself, the team’s race summary painted a picture of a grueling event. Facing challenges at every turn, the Wright team’s determination paid off with a solid result—a testament to their championship-caliber skill and resolve.
Looking Ahead
The next stop on the IMSA calendar is a “sprint” race: the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 12. Porsche teams and fans alike are eager to see if this momentum carries forward.
